Lonny Lohrman’s RV-6 has flown! | Wichita, KS RV-6 #25408
Congrats to Lonny on the completion and first flight of his new RV-6 that’s been more than 20 years in the making!
After 20 years, 7 months and 26 days of slow but steady construction in the basement, living room, kitchen, garage and hangar, N248TT finally took to the air on 03.21.2019 at 5:57 PM for a safe first flight. To start with, I would like to give all the glory of this huge accomplishment to the Good Lord above, because without him, none of this would have ever been possible.
Throughout this long odyssey, I have had an unbelievable amount of help and support and could not have completed this project without the help from family, many friends, and the great group of guys in the Air Capital RVator’s builder’s group.
Words fail to express the thanks owed to Tina, Lucas and Kailey who, for the last 20 years, have put up with various airplane parts and pieces stored in various places and rooms of our home, and also with the noises, smells and effort required to build an airplane. It has been the ultimate “family project.” A special shout-out goes to my loving wife Tina, who definitely earned the TT in N248TT (and can rivet with the best of them). It was a special day for us and I was glad to have them witness and share in the moment. The first flight was one of the most exciting and rewarding things that I’ve ever done. I would also like to thank Keith Rhea for being my “safety pilot” and for the help and assistance he has given me these last several months and for getting me to the finish line. Also thanks to Barney Rahal for being my wingman today. Nothing can describe the awesome feeling of that first lift-off in an airplane that you built with your own hands in your garage. What an experience!
