After five years of building, my bird took flight on May 8, 2022 at Felts Field (KSFF). It performed perfectly, flying straight and true.
I had to find a break in the severe weather for the flight, which had included two tornados and hailstorms in the previous 24 hours. Thanks to the Transition Training given by Chris Droege in Nampa, Idaho, I had no surprises in the takeoff or landing. I had a great cheering section with my wife Linda, my daughter Rilla, her husband Rod and their daughters Amy and Josie all looking on.
A shoutout to Kelly in the Felts Field Control Tower who gave me preferencial treatment with the widest, longest runway and permission to orbit over the Field for the flight. I’m now looking forward to completing Phase I to be able to share the Van’s Grin with my family and friends.
