RV-11 MOTORGLIDER
UPDATE
Van
I have been applying evening and
some weekend time to it over the past winter. Unlike the
well-staffed and well-organized developmental projects in our
prototype shop, progress is painfully slow. I blame it on the
many variable and unknowns, plus the low productivity of one
tired old workman. I’ve often cautioned RV builders that
should avoid making changes and trying new ideas because this
takes much, much more time than following the plans. I am now
hoist on my own petard, having fallen into the trap of building
in experimental features which are not really essential to this
POC airplane. Sorry, I guess I am a fallible human also. I still
have hopes of finishing it this year. We’ll see.
How’s this for a compact
instrument panel? 6.5 x 8 inches! The I-K Technologies AIM-1
display provides the airspeed, altitude, RPM, MP, Oil temp &
Pressure, fuel pressure, and 4 cyl. EGT and CHT. The radio is a
MicroAir and there is space for a variometer, and mag and
starter switches.

The wiring process is underway, as is
obvious from the random loose wires. Engine and baffle
installation is nearly complete. One "different"
feature is the fuel tank, located behind the cockpit and
attached only to the upper fuselage skin. Tank and skin await
installation until all other internal work is finished in the
aft fuselage.
